On Sunday, January 18, I invited All Saints’ people to write down on a notecard an answer to this question: “What have you learned about listening to God?”
Then I asked everyone to share what they learned with one other person this week–in the spirit of the words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: “Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.”
Some kept their notecards, as a reminder to share. Others shared them with me, even while committing to share with someone else.
Here is what All Saints’ people said, in their own words… -PC
What All Saints’ people have learned about listening to God
- “cross”
- “I’ve learned that listening to God can do great things”
- “I need to treat it like any other conversation–focus on who is speaking to me. I still struggle discerning God’s will for my life.”
- “It is hard to be quiet enough to listen. I must be patient. He may not tell me what I want to hear.”
- “I learn that God loves us all. God is not partial. God wants all to be happy. God wants us to enourage each of us. It’s most important to love, put him first and to love our neighbor as we love ourself.”
- “Be calm and know that what happens to me is part of God’s plan.”
- “Answers may come when you least expect one and may not be understood right away.”
- “patience (in his time not my time)”
- “It is an every day needed event. Sometimes it is not easy to hear the change I need to do.”
- “I have learned that when you truly listen, you think with a clear mind, and God guides you to answers you didn’t know you had questions to.”
