Various Fund-Raiser Opportunities in the Area

QC CROP walk fund-raiser

Hello friends,

The Quad Cities CROP Hunger Walk committee is excited to tell you that we are having a fundraising night at the Olive Tree Cafe on Wednesday, July 19th.

Both the Bettendorf location on 53rd Ave at 18th St and the Davenport restaurant at 1414 W Locust St will be donating a portion of their sales from that evening to our local CROP Hunger Walk. They’ll be serving between 4pm and 8pm.

And, since you are a recruiter, team captain, or our known point of contact at your congregation or organization, this event will help you get excited. Excited for our upcoming walk and for our chances to work together to raise over $50,000 again this year for hunger programs locally and globally.

So, we’re asking you to please support us in this endeavor. Tell your family, friends and co-workers. Better yet, just bring ’em with you.

You can find out more about the Olive Tree Cafe by clicking here.

As always, you can find out more about our local CROP Hunger Walk by visiting our Facebook page and our CWS walk and donations page.

Thanks in advance for supporting the Quad Cities CROP Hunger Walk, the granddaddy of all fundraising walks.  The October 1st walk will be our 46th consecutive CROP walk.

Walk.  Give.  Change the world.  Bring the kids.

With gratitude,
Rick Martin
QC CROP Hunger Walk committee

Trivia Night Benefit for Mike Kelly

The Holtan family knows Mike Kelly and family through various Autism groups (Black Hawk Center, Royal Ball Run, Hand in Hand, etc.). Mike has been off work since February 2017 due to complications with diabetes. Due to these complications, he had to have his leg amputated in June. The medical bills are starting to pile up and we are unsure as to when Mike will be able to return to work. To help with the bills there will be a Trivia Night with Mr. Trivia on Friday, July 21st. The event will be held at Jumer’s Casino and Hotel in the D. James Jumer Event Center located at 777 Jumer Dr., Rock Island, IL 61201. Doors open at 6:30 pm and trivia will begin at 7:00 pm. In addition to trivia there will be a silent auction, Round Doubler, Mulligans, and 50/50 raffle. The cost is $100 per table (8-10 people) with cash prizes for the top three (3) winning tables. Please bring your own food if you’d like, there will also be food available to purchase at Blue Square. Beverages sold on site, cash bar available. To reserve your table of 8-10 people, please contact Becky at zibba23@yahoo.com or by text at 563.349.6313.  A flyer with all the information is hanging on the kiosk!

Thanksgiving in July Returns in 2017

Thanksgiving in July is back! Churches United of the Quad City Area, local businesses, and the caring people of the Quad Cities will again partner in 2017 to organize and promote this community-wide, non-perishable food drive. All food collected will go directly to the 26 food pantries and 3 hot meal sites operated by Churches United in the Quad Cities.

From July 1st through the 31st, community members, local business owners, and civic organizations are encouraged to hold their own food drives or make individual food donations at one of the designated drop off sites in the Quad City Area – Fareway Food Stores in Davenport, Bettendorf and Moline and QC Core Chiropractic Wellness Center and Caddy’s Sports Bar and Grill in Bettendorf. Nonperishable item needs include baby food; canned fruits and vegetables; canned meat such as tuna, Spam and chicken; peanut butter; rice pasta and pasta sauce; macaroni and cheese; juice boxes; boxed meals and soups. Paper goods – toilet paper and diapers – are also needed and gratefully accepted.

Cash donations are especially appreciated and allow the food pantries to buy bulk food at a reduced cost. Make checks payable to Churches United Thanksgiving in July and send to: Churches United of the Quad City Area, 2535 Tech Drive Suite 205, Bettendorf, IA 52722.

THANK YOU to Thanksgiving in July sponsors Fareway Food Stores, QC Core Chiropractic Wellness Center, Caddy’s Sports Bar and Grill, and the Iowa Pork Producers Association for helping us feed the hungry!

Please consider joining our board of directors and office staff, along with other member churches in walking in the parade on the Fourth of July in Bettendorf! This is a fun and exciting way to bring together our member churches and show our organization to the community. Bring a group of people, of all ages, from your church to the parade in Bettendorf. After the parade, we encourage you to visit our tent and display at the street fair in Bettendorf where we will be handing out snacks, and collecting donations for Thanksgiving in July! Attached is a photo with more information regarding the parade route.

Contact Betsy Vanausdeln, Outreach Manager at Churches United, for additional food drive details and to arrange delivery of your food donations, at 563-332-5002 bvanausdeln@cuqca.org.

There is a flyer on the kiosk in the gathering space.
