Theme for the Season of Epiphany

Letting the light of Jesus guide us toward justice and peace

Amidst the short days and long nights of winter, we celebrate a season of light. Candlelight, starlight, moonlight on the snow, lights that still decorate our homes and neighborhoods as we cling to the joy of the Christmas season: all of these pale in comparison to the light of the Savior that still shines on us. Jesus’ light is a call to both justice and peace.

The path toward justice is long and difficult. We often think of justice as something we must strive toward: an objective worth pursuing, though the process is fraught with obstacles and challenges. At the same time, we are called to a life of peace, sharing the light of Christ with our neighbors as we do our best to show God’s love and grace to one another. The light of Jesus illuminates both pathways, and shows us that they are one and the same.

In this season of Epiphany, this season of light, may the Savior’s light shine on us, before us, and through us.
