Worship Items for October 16, 2022 – 19th Sunday after Pentecost

Introduction

Pray always. Do not lose heart. This is Christ’s encouragement in the gospel today. Wrestle with the word. Remember your baptism again and again. Come regularly to Christ’s table. Persistence in our every encounter with the divine will be blessed.

Prayer of the Day

O Lord God, tireless guardian of your people, you are always ready to hear our cries. Teach us to rely day and night on your care. Inspire us to seek your enduring justice for all this suffering world, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Confession and Forgiveness

Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God, who is eager to forgive and who loves us beyond our days. Amen. Dear friends, together let us acknowledge our failure to love this world as Jesus does.

God of mercy and forgiveness, we confess that sin still has a hold on us. We have harmed your good creation. We have failed to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with you. Turn us in a new direction. Show us the path that leads to life. Be our refuge and strength on the journey, through Jesus Christ, our redeemer and friend. Amen.

Beloved of God: your sins are forgiven ☩ and you are made whole. God points the way to new life in Christ, who meets us on the road. Journey now in God’s abiding love through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

All Saints Lutheran Church is a congregation of people called by God to ignite passion for Jesus and transform their neighborhoods with hope and love. We believe all are welcome. Really, everyone. All kinds of people, in all walks of life, call All Saints home.

Worship at All Saints might look and feel a little different. We carefully and prayerfully select a worship theme each season, and we choose songs and liturgical elements that help communicate that theme and bring us closer to God and to one another.

All worship services are offered in-person in the sanctuary or via Facebook Live on the church’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/allsaintsdavenport.

The worship service can be watched at a later time on the church’s Facebook newsfeed or on the church’s YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS2ArtcS2DWdwFD1gYXSBng/featured.

Theme for the Season of Pentecost – Autumn / November

We are called to be your disciples; Refresh our hearts in Christ

Discipleship is a journey that leads us closer to God. Through the example of Jesus Christ, we are shown that discipleship is a calling. Following Jesus’ inspiring demonstration of love and sacrifice, we can see that responding to God’s call can be both costly and joyful.

In living out the calling of our vocations and avocations, as students, leaders, creatives, and workers, we can seek out ways to follow God more closely. In our everyday lives and work, we can seek out the ways that God calls us to be lights in the darkness, helpers to those in need, stewards of creation, and laborers in the harvest.

Each Sunday, as we gather for worship, we encounter God in new and numerous ways. We are strengthened by God’s love, shown to us in word and sacrament. Our hearts are refreshed in the love and power of Jesus Christ, drawing us closer to one another in community. We are called to be God’s disciples, and our hearts are refreshed and renewed in Christ’s love.
