O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. Psalm 107:1
On a Monday morning, in the dog days of summer, the shed doors out back are often pried open. The riding mower is fired up, the grass cut. If it’s a good day, the underbelly of the machine won’t have to be crawled under, and coaxed back to working order. Once the grass growth slows a bit, and the hint of fall approaches, Sunday School hits the ground running. Dedicated teachers joyfully teach our little ones what it means to love Jesus, and to be loved by Him. What’s the common thread? Tom Schoville.
Tom grew up in Waterloo before moving to the Quad Cities with his wife, Julie. They have a son, Scott, who is actively involved at All Saints, too. Tom’s been a sales rep for nearly 30 years, and has served as co-owner of his agency for 12 of those years. While he’s on the road most days covering a large territory, he looks forward to retiring soon and enjoying life close to home. He’ll have more time to invest in woodworking.
An All Saints member for 27 years, Tom serves on the church council as the representative of the Worship and Property Team. He’s not afraid to do what needs doing: from lawn mowing to bathroom maintenance to teaching Sunday School every week with his wife Julie. In worship, you’ll often find Tom ushering or assisting with communion. Joyful service abounds in Tom.
Tom loves conversation. If you’ve stepped through the doors of All Saints, then you’ve probably observed Tom doing what he loves: engaging with people, friends and newcomers alike. He enjoys making us feel at home. Welcomed. Loved.
The book of Psalms are Tom’s favorite writings of the Bible, and he turns to them often. He also stays connected to his faith through an app on his phone that sends a daily verse through cyberspace, providing inspiration whether at home or on the road.
Tom is living and breathing joyful service – every day of the week. We are thankful.
