God speaks this week through these scriptures:
Isaiah 40:1-11 – Good news of God’s coming to a people in exile
Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13 – Righteousness shall prepare a pathway for God
2 Peter 3:8-15a – Waiting for and hastening the day of God
Mark 1:1-8 – John appears from the wilderness
Prepare the way of the Lord!
Isaiah announces that the exile of God’s people is over and shares the promise that the Lord will care for them as a shepherd cares for his sheep.
Prepare the way of the Lord!
The author of the letter in 2 Peter calls on Christians to anticipate the promised coming of the Lord through conduct dedicated to God.
Prepare the way of the Lord!
In Mark, John the Baptist cries out in the wilderness, calling people to repent, to clear the decks, to completely reorder their lives so that nothing would get in the way of the Lord’s coming.
Prepare the way of the Lord!
Join us in worship on this second Sunday of Advent, hear God’s promises of care and new creation, share the peace of God and be nourished by the Meal, and experience God’s presence as we pray together: “Stir up our hearts, Lord God, to prepare the way of your only Son.”
